Problem 6. Blood bank: Statistical methods.
A large blood bank clinic wants to use statistical methods to better plan its hourly staffing of nurses who collect the blood from donors. Based on past records, the blood bank has created the probability distribution displayed in Figure 1. Note that X represents the number of donors that come to visit to donate blood in a 1-hour period.
X = number of donor visits per hour

Figure 1. Probability distribution of donor visits
a.Create a new StatCrunch data file called BloodBank that contains the probability distribution shown in Figure 1 with the two variables Donors and P(X). Copy and paste the probability distribution table from StatCrunch to a Word file entitled Assignment3B under the subheading Problem 6a. [1 mark]
b.Use StatCrunch to compute the mean and standard deviation of the probability distribution describing the donor visits. Copy and paste the Graph, Mean and Standard Deviation of the blood donor visits probability distribution created in StatCrunch into the Word file Assignment3B under the subheading Problem 6b. Remember to re-save both the StatCrunch and the Word file. [1 mark]
c.If one nurse can handle 10 donors per hour, use your answer to Problem 6b to estimate the number of nurses you expect to need per hour (round up your answer to the nearest whole number). How does the size of the standard deviation affect the staffing situation? Explain. Type your answers to this question under the subheading Problem 6c in your Word file Assignment3B. [2 marks]
