Problem A (7 points) The following table illustrates production capabilities for Protoss and Terran. The two each can produce minerals or gas. Minerals Gas Protoss 5 minutes 10 minutes Terran 10 minutes 30 minutes The table shows how long it takes each to produce gas and minerals. In other words, it takes Protoss 5 minutes to make a mineral, and it takes Terran 10 minutes to make a mineral. Assume that there is 5 hours (300 minutes) in which to produce. The table is reprinted on the turn-in sheet for you. On your turn-in sheet, complete the following: 1. Draw the PPC for Protoss on the left graph, putting minerals on the horizontal axis. Label everything, including the vertical and horizontal intercepts numerically. Draw closely to scale, considering the slope of the function. Do the same for Terran on the right graph. (2 points) 2. Fill out the tables of opportunity costs (see the Dave and Jaime door/window example in the notes packet for help and hints). (1 point) 3. Answer the questions about absolute and comparative advantage. (1 point) 4. Assume that Protoss specializes in his comparative advantage. Label the chosen production output combination as point A on the Protoss PPC. Assume that Terran also specializes in his comparative advantage. Label the chosen production output combination as point A on the Terran PPC. (1 point) 5. Based on production times, it is determined that one unit of gas is worth 2.5 minerals. A trade occurs in which 6 gas is exchanged for 15 minerals. After the trade, Protoss has some gas and some minerals. On the Protoss PPC, label this new combination as point B. Numerically show the values of gas and minerals at this point. Do the same for Terran, drawing a point B on the Terran PPC graph. Hint: You'll have to figure out who had which goods from the previous question. This problem requires some work. (2 points)
