The case involves a female employee by the name of Valeda Day who suffered from a stressful work environment at the hands of Travelers insurance Company (Employer) as well as developed anxiety and depression due to the high work load that was placed on her. In her case, Day testified that amongst other issues, she was also being harassed due to being a female.

Valeda Day filed a claim in February asserting that even after leaving the company that she was still suffering from depression and occupational anxiety disorder.The following month, Travelers denied her workers compensation claim which led to a hearing.

Day's claim for workers comp. in an opinion and award was once again denied by the deputy commissioner, in which Day then appealed the opinion and award who denied her claim.
