Research Scenario:A social psychologist interested in "outrage culture" wants to study whether the time that adults spend on Twitter is related to their mood, specifically their levels of anger. He recruits 18 adults who report using Twitter frequently and has them record the time they spend daily on Twitter for one week. He takes the mean of these scores to represent daily time on Twitter. He also has the same adults complete the State Anger Scale of the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 (STAXI-2; Spielberger, 1999) immediately after spending at least 10 minutes on Twitter. The State Anger Scale is a 10-item subscale of the STAXI-2 that indicates the intensity of anger one is feeling at the time of administration. The range of possible scores on this subscale is 10-40, where higher scores indicate higher levels of anger. The psychologist takes the mean of the seven daily SAS scores to represent an overall anger score. Is there a relationship between the time adults spend on Twitter and their scores on the State Anger Scale?
