Procurement departments use many different metrics to measure their own performance. One is cost savings over time. Another is the number of suppliers, where less is apparently better. But it would seem that having more suppliers to choose from (or pit against each other) might actually offer a better opportunity for cost savings. Are these 2 measurements in conflict with each other? Why or why not?
