You have been hired by Tesla to design the user interface for a mobile app that will control their next generation vehicle.
This vehicle will no longer use traditional dashboard based controls. Rather, this vehicle will be selfdriving and will rely exclusively on the app for all controls
Product description
Specifically, the app will have the following four key functions: Set destination
Control audio system
Control climate control
Access the vehicles seating and storage areas
Key activities
During the reminder of the semester, you will prepare deliverables:
Write an initial set of requirements based on your understanding of the needs.
Conduct interviews with at least three individuals who might buy a self driving vehicle to update those user requirements
Design and prototype an interactive app that satisfies your users requirements.
Conduct usability tests with at least three individuals using your prototype
Revise your design based on your usability test results
Grading
Each assignment is worth points, but weighted differently in how it will contribute to your final project grade.
Final grade will be based on the following weighting:
Initial project requirements
User research report and updated requirements
Initial design prototypes
Usability test report and videos
Final prototype and presentation
Deliverable : Initial requirements
Define an initial set requirements for each of the four app functions listed on slide
Ensure you you have a comprehensive set requirements sufficient to completely describe the app functions to a development team
Submit the requirements. Writing a report with introduction front matter is not required
Deliverable : Overview Type: Interviews
Number of interviews: three different people, each representing different user groupspersonas total people
Interviews should be between minutes each
Deliverable : User research report
Report should include the following sections:
Introduction not needed
Learning goals not needed
points: User groups list and explain the user groups you selected; detail why you selected these particular user groups
points: Overview of method detail how you executed the interviews. Include basic participant demographics in tabular form.
points: Interview script
points: Learnings & updated requirements present your key findings and explain how you translated those findings into requirements.
points: Review and update your requirements for each of the four app functions listed on slide
Deliverable : Initial design and prototype
In deliverable you will now use your refined requirements from deliverable to develop a prototype of your app using any freely available prototyping software available on the internet for example Balsamiq or Figma
points: Your prototype needs to include all four functions of the app
Each function needs to be able to complete the main flow and one alternative flow points each, total points
points: You will submit a short video that shows someone could be you using the prototype through all flows that is: flows per each of the functions
Need a voice over that explains each flow being shown
Deliverable : Overview
In deliverable you will now conduct a usability test with individuals each from your different user groups
Test sessions should be between minutes each
Deliverable : Usability testing report
Report should include the following sections:
Introduction not needed
Learning goals not needed
User groups not needed
points: Study tasks List and explain the study tasks that you will have each participant conduct. Explain why these tasks are important to your product development. Overview of method detail how you executed the study. Include basic participant demographics in tabular form.
points: Learnings present your key findings
points: Design Changes: Explain how you translated those
findings into design changes and outline the design changes
points: Test script
Deliverable : Overview
In deliverable you will now an update your design to reflect your key learnings from your usability test.
You will create a high visual and highinteractive fidelity prototype that demonstrates your final design.
Deliverable : Prototype
Upload a final, clickable prototype or provide a link to a webbased prototype Your final prototype should reflect the look and feel of your final, commerciallyviable app.
At a minimum, a user should be able to interact with it to complete the following:
points Set a destination to HCI Road, Scienceville, MD
points Select a music source radio phone, CD to play music the app doesnt have to play music but needs to let the user click through to complete the task
points Increase or
