Snchez will discuss his most recent book,Boyle Heights: How a Los Angeles Neighborhood Became the Future of American Democracy(2021).This talk will center on the transformation of this neighborhood through undocumented immigration in the 1970s and 1980s, and the response of community-based organizations, such as Mothers of East LA and Homeboy Industries, to incorporate all residents into advocates for neighborhood empowerment through political action not based on citizenship, but on residency in the neighborhood, motherhood, and religious principles.
