Project 2 Instructions: A clinical psychologist is interested in determining whether students from the school that she teaches at scored higher or lower on a math test than the rest of the student population. Based on this research question, use the file "Project 2 Data photo below" to answer the following questions. Once you've chosen your hypotheses, you should test them to determine if your sample is significantly different from the population, and explain what your results mean. You should use p<.05. you will also need to calculate or determine the following:>

NOTE: ALL NECESSARY INFORMATION IS ATTACHED IN A PGOTO BELOW

  • For this project, the data set provided is the data you have collected for your sample
  • Assume that the general student population mean is known to be 36.8, and that the student population's standard deviation is 3.9 hours (conduct calculations and report any answers in decimals to 2 decimal places).
  • Remember that your research question is asking whether or not students in our sample scored lower or higher than the rest of the student population.

  • To start, Calculate:
    • Mean, Standard Deviation, N of the sample data given (data that I gave you in the spreadsheet)
    • Use this for your Sample Mean & N when doing your hypothesis testing

  • Walkthrough the 5 steps of research hypothesis testing, comparing the sample data to the general population-Make sure each of these steps is listed and calculated/completed to obtain full credit!!

  • 1) Restate the question as a set of two hypotheses:

Research (H1):

Null (H0):

  • 2) Determine the characteristics of the comparison distribution (i.e. population mean and population SD from the information provided above.

  • 3) Determine a cutoff z-score at which we reject the null hypothesis (H0)

  • 4) Determine a sample's z-score on the comparison distribution

  • 5) Determine whether or not to reject H0

  • Compute a 95% confidence interval for the sample data.

  • Use APA format write the z-test (see attached photo for guidance)

  • Use APA format write out the findings (see attached Photo for guidance)

Big Picture Questions:

  • Please give a SPECIFIC example of how you could apply the techniques that you learned in this project/data in your current Nursing. You don't need to give an example for each chapter, choose one technique.
