Project Background: Ajman Woodworks (AJW) was started as an ordinary hardware store in Al-Jurf, Ajman in 2008. The business developed an excellent reputation as a friendly neighborhood store. The store managers are all active in the community and the store regularly sponsors youth sports teams and support local charities as well. When hired, salespeople go through a comprehensive training program that includes skill training in the areas of the store in which they will work (plumbing, electrical, power tools, flooring, garden, and so on), and they trained in customer service skills. AS a result of this focus on service, Ajman Woodworks became a community gathering place. In recent years, AJW became concerned that the business in no longer growing. The store is facing increasing competition from other hardware chains. These national chains have opened many new stores, and they are larger, carry more items, and offer lower prices on some items. The competition is fierce; for example, AJW closed its lumber department because of this competition. The national chains buy lumber in such large quantities that they can offer far lower prices. AJW matched his larger competitors prices but found that they were unable to earn a profit on lumber sales, and that department consumed a large amount of floor space in the store. AJW currently has not implemented any information technology or IT services in their organizational environment and are now seriously thinking about its implementation. They know through their initial analysis that if they want to expand their business or to run it effectively, they will have to transform their business model to use information technology and related services to make them competitive. It requires the implementation of e-business and e-commerce across the board.
