Project Description A new 1 MW two-stage steam turbine unit (as shown in the figure) is to be designed by you as a mechanical engineer. In this regard, you need to perform the required thermodynamic analysis. The high-pressure turbine of the unit is designed to produce a power output of 700 kW and the low-pressure turbine stage is designed for a power output of 300 kW. In your design, you need to select a suitable inlet pressure (between 500 kPa to 10 MPa) along with the corresponding temperatures (between 350C to 500C) for high-pressure turbine. Also, choose an exit pressure for both the high-pressure and low- pressure turbine between the range 300 kPa and 44.5 kPa. Also, the isentropic efficiencies of the turbines range between 75% and 92%. Note that each group is requested to select different pressure, temperature and isentropic efficiency values for the calculations. High-pressure turbine Low-pressure turbine You are requested to do the following tasks: 1. Write both mass, energy and entropy balance equations for both turbines 2. Determine the mass flow rate of steam that needs to be supplied to the two-stage turbine unit to meet the total design power output of 1 MW 3. Find the vapor quality at the exit of the high and low-pressure turbines 4. Find the exit temperature of both the high and low-pressure turbines
