Project Description Problem statement Students often complain that a test is too difficult. Are there tests that are more difficult than others? And if there are, was it because the material was harder, the test was more difficult, or the students just didn't do as well on the exam? It is difficult to ascertain the reasons why students do better on one exam or worse on another, but we can determine if they actually do better or worse on some exams or if they do the same on all of the exams. Another claim that has often been made is that women do worse in mathematics and sciences than men. Is this just a stereotype, or is there actual statistical evidence to support this claim? Project Requirement You are required to design and run statistical analysis to test answer the following questions: 1) Whether overall students' performance across all the exams are the same? 2) Which specific exam is the most challenging exam for female students? 3) Whether male students do better in the history exam?

The final report for the project should be 5-8 pages that describe the questions of interest, how you used the data set to analyze these questions with details on the steps you used in your analysis, your findings of your question of interest, and the limitations of your study. Specifically, your report should contain the following: 1. Abstract: A one-paragraph summary of what you set out to learn and what you ended up finding. It should summarize the entire report. 2. Introduction: An introduction to the problem, including the claim(s) being tested 3. Analysis: Describe how you used statistical methods to analyze the data set. Specifically, you should discuss how you carried out the steps in analysis discussed in class, i.e., exploration of data to find an initial reasonable model, checking the model, and changes to the model based on your checking of the model a. Use Minitab for the calculation but state your test clearly. 4. Results: Provide inferences about the questions of interest, use the correct format for chart and figures, 5. Discussion: Based on your results, discuss what do you find regarding those questions 6. Limitations of study and conclusion: Describe any limitations of your study and how they might be overcome in future research and provide brief conclusions about the results of your study. 7. Please submit your Minitab project (*.MPJ) (Minitab file you created for your calculation) along with your report

NOTE: For the statistical details: 1) Use appropriate methods to check the data 2) Clearly state your test details 3) Use appropriate graphs and tables (every project should have at least one graph or chart of the data in it) to describe the data and illustrate the results a. Include all detailed results inside the appendix. 4) Inferential statistics including a. the null and alternative hypotheses written symbolically b. statistical output, including a test statistic and p-value c. a graph showing the critical and non-critical regions, test statistics, and p-value d. the decision and a conclusion is written in terms of the original claim
