Project Guidelines: The mission of this assignment is to analyze an ethical/social issue that managers face today and direct change in an organization. This project will have the ultimate goal of developing a policy for an organization. The ethical/social issue and company will be the student's choice but should be relevant to today's business world and utilize current events and research (events that have been brought to light within the last year). Your paper will be uploaded into the appropriate Project Outcomes: on discrimination and pay gap in community, company 1. Analyze a current ethical/social issue. 2. Evaluate in context of impact on individuals, communities, and organizations. 3. Posit organizational actions to implement change. 4. Articulates ethical standards of business and defends position on issue. Paper Description This paper should be divided into four main parts with sub-sections - Ethical/Social Issue - student will research an ethical/social issue with outside sources. Student must look at all dimensions (positive and negative) of the issue from a multi-focal perspective (ie. Stakeholders - business, consumer, global community, etc.). The issue, the community affected, and any other pertinent information should be explored; this section should be approximately 2-3 pages. Student should cite a minimum of 4 sources (most should be relatively recent - within a year old). - Company Background - student will choose a specific company that the researched ethical/social issue applies to (must have evidence that this issue is relevant). Student should research the company and provide a background that discusses the company (in general) - including company structure, culture, financial situation, and other pertinent information; current policies/procedures as they apply to this issue; and a short history of the firm should be included. This section should be approximately 2-4 pages. - Company Policy and Managerial Implications - student will propose a specific course of action for the firm. Student must articulate a position for the company on the issue, a specific set of policies/procedures the firm should enact, and a set of one-year goals and controls that will allow this company to enact the new position. From a managerial perspective, discuss the foundations of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) in relation to this new policy. A comprehensive view of this policy should be detailed - including policies/procedures, changes to company structure/culture, financial implications, and the overall impact on the social issue. This section should be approximately *Issue: in this context, an issue is a point of debate or dispute; so for this, you will be discussing/researching an Ethical (a set of principles of right and wrong) and/or a Social (relating to human/animal welfare) Issue.
