The project that is being proposed is an after-school program for at-risk youth in the city of Los Angeles, California. This program will aim to provide these youth with a safe place to go after school, where they can receive homework help and tutoring, participate in enrichment activities, and form positive relationships with adult mentors.
It is estimated that there is over 100,000 at-risk youth living in Los Angeles ("Los Angeles County Profile"). These are young people who are more likely than their peers to drop out of school, become involved in gangs or other criminal activity, and/or end up unemployed or underemployed as adults. They often come from low-income families and neighborhoods with limited resources. As such, they face significant challenges in achieving academic success and leading successful lives.
