Assume that you are required to develop an ecommerce system for a rural area of Sarawak. The description is following:
Long Lamai is one of the biggest and oldest settlements of the Eastern Penan in Sarawak. It is located at upper reaches of Sarawaks Baram river basin, Miri, Sarawak. Long Lamai is home to the Penan community[4]. Shedding its traditional nomadic way of life, the Penans in Long Lamai have settled there since the 1930s under headman Belare Jabu, who was encouraged by the British colonial administration to settle along the Balong River and close to the Indonesian border. With only about six households at year 1930s, the Penan population is exploded to more than 150 households nowadays. Today, the Penan live on farming, hunting and collecting of forest fruits and products.

In 2006, the Long Lamai community received a telecenter project in year 2006[3]. The telecenter project is needed as there is no homeline, mobile coverage in Long Lamai. A small population of Penan community does not attract an investment from telecom providers. Hence, the telecenter is the only location to access to Internet and computer facilities.
The telecenter project aimed at bridging the digital gap between the urban and Long Lamai community. Figure presents the telecenter, the satellite network as well as the computer facilites in the telecenter. The telecenter project covers physical infrastructure as well as ICT infrastructure. The ICT equipments as well as a 4kW standalone solar PV systems are hosted locally in the telecenter. Also, the telecenter is used as a community center. In the telecenter, the community is provided with computer facilities and Internet access. The community was trained to use the ICT in order to explore to the outside world.

Overall, the community offers craft products and homestay programmes. The stakeholders of the community commerce are the community and other actors like experts or NGOs, system providers, buyers and bankers. The community relies on system providers to promote commercial products and services online. The system provider deals with buyer(s) to handle the selling of the products and services; the buyer get orders and pay through the bank. The experts or NGOs initial the eCommerce to the community and helps developing or consulting the eCommerce system. The members in the community are important as they are the stakeholders of farmers, homestay owners, transporters, telecenter manager and craft makers. The farmers ensure a continuous supply of raw materials. The craft makers make craft and sell online. The homestay owners offer homestay programme and take care of visitors and tourisms. The transporters deliver the craft product to the public. They work as potter to help transporting the products in and out of the village. Also, they are the boat owner to ship the craft out from the villages as well as fetch visitors who are coming and leaving Long Lamai. Finally, the telecenter manager coordinates sales and handles the payment of the sales.
