Congratulations Senior Executive Administrative Assistant! Months have passed since your last meeting with Ms. English and sales are increasing and the business is prospering. More employees have been hired and the business pays a fair salary. There is a legal issue to discuss, however: a former job applicant is considering pursuing a claim of discrimination. Ms. English has again requested to meet with you and discuss your ideas. Ms. English would like you to please remember to submit your paper detailing and discussing your thoughts, ideas, and advice while relying on what you have learned in your BUS 605/Legal Environment of Business course:

Jane Jones applied for a position within the company two months ago and was rejected. Ms. Jones has now retained an attorney and is considering filing a lawsuit alleging employment discrimination in violation of Title VII. Ms. English is not sure if Ms. Jones can even file a lawsuit since she was never an employee. You need to educate Ms. English on Title VII: what Title VII is, who may sue, what the plaintiff must prove, and what would help Ms. English in her defense, including what she can do in the future to avoid this situation from occurring again. You also need to educate Ms. English on the two types of cases that can be brought under Title VII: what they are, how to proceed in each type of case, and which type of case Ms. Jones is likely to bring against Ms. English.
