Projectile motion simulation
You are going to use the following projectile motion simulation to launch a projectile. It will enable you to become more familiar with the concepts related to projectile motion.
The stimulation allows you to change the following variables:
- launch (firing) angle
- initial speed of projectile (magnitude of the velocity)
- height of cannon
- air resistance (ignore this option)
- mass of object
- diameter of object
- object itself
Note:Since we are now dealing with two-dimensional motion, we will not consider the case of launching the projectile straight up (in other words, at a 90 angle).
Instructions:
- Launch the simulation on the intro mode.
This simulation will help enable you to become more familiar with the concepts related to projectile motion. Familiarize yourself with the user interface by trying out the different buttons and features of the simulator.
Your goal in the intro mode is to launch the projectile and land it as close to the target as possible by adjusting the angle of the cannon, the initial speed and the type of projectile.
Projectile motion simulation Maximum height? Time of ight? Review Questions: From the simulation, when you keep the angle constant, remove air resistance, and vary the initial speed of the projectile. 1. Identify if the following statements are true or false: a. When you keep the angle constant and remove air resistance then increase the initial velocity, the range decreases. b. When you keep the angle constant and remove air resistance then decrease the initial velocity, the maximum height decreases. c. When you increase the initial velocity, the time of ight increases. d. If the angle and initial speed remain fixed and the air resistance is ignored, but the mass is varied, the range, maximum height and time of ight all increase. e. If the angle and initial speed remains xed and the air resistance is ignored but the diameter of the object is varied, the range, maximum height and time of ight all decrease. Projectile motion simulation 1.3 Examining kinematics There are seven tasks to complete in this activity. Using the projectile motion simulation complete each of these tasks. Be sure to record your answers. you will use them as a reference to complete the follow up questions. To find the time, range and height of the projectile, drag the tool shown in this diagram to any part of the projectile's trajectory. If you want to nd the maximum height, move the tool to the top of its path. If you want to nd the time or range of flight, move the tool to where the projectile landed. me 1435 Range 21.42 m Height Task 1: Keeping the angle constant, remove air resistance then vary the initial speed of the projectile for each time you re the canon.
