In 2018, the overall prevalence of obesity among children ages 6-11 in the United States was 21%. Among non-Hispanic Black children, it was 24%, and among Hispanic children over 25% (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2021). While a multitude of factors contribute to this, a diet high in processed foods is a significant one. Reducing children's intake of these foods and increasing their daily consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables is one of many strategies used to address the problem. In small groups, discuss how children's intentions to eating eat more fruits and vegetables might be increased by using the constructs of the theory of planned behavior. In particular:

1.) How might children's attitudes toward eating fruits and vegetables be changed from a negative one to a positive one?

2.) How might subjective norms be used to strengthen children's intention to eat fruits and vegetables?

3.) How might children's perceived behavioral control over the consumption of fruits and vegetables be increased?
