what do you think of the free offers used by online retailers or marketer? Do you think the free offers would be more effective than coupons?

Doing this discussion in January is very timely as most of us have just had to navigate the holiday season and the associated shopping craze. All of us, whether we realized it or not have been subjected to a huge amount of marketing ploys to entice us to spend money in certain stores. The one word any retailer loves is "free". Free offers are almost universally more effective than coupons or discounts, even for obscenely low rates. Even Amazon, the online retailing juggernaut could not avoid this relationship, as they found that "free" shipping was a much stronger motivator than shipping at a paltry $0.25, literally pocket change (MarketingProfs). The word free instantly denotes an extra value that is supposedly gained in excess of the price of the product - additional value. However, unless the corporation is willing selling at a loss to encourage consumer loyalty - quite rare in the scheme of business - the consumer must pay for these products and services in the price of the product somehow. The data from Amazon proves that coupons are not as effective as offers for "free" aspects or products. In the long or short of it, in the mind of the consumer, it doesn't matter how low a price is, its never as low as free
