Provide response addressing the scenario which includes,

1. Identify the client's problem.

2: Identify, review, and select therapy.

3: Adapt therapy for the client.

Joanna is a 59-year-old female who, two years ago, was widowed and has been living alone since. Her husband was diagnosed with liver cancer two years before his death. She has two grown children (28 and 24 years old). Her eldest is engaged and has moved interstate to be closer to his fiance, and her youngest is completing an undergraduate overseas. Joanna has an undergraduate degree and used to work, but stopped at the age of 29 after marrying and having children. Joanna describes her major problem as depression that she has been experiencing over the past year. She has said that she "finds it difficult to cope with daily life, is lonely, and never has any energy". Since her husband was diagnosed, Joanna became increasingly isolated. However, prior to this, she maintained normal and consistent friendships throughout her life. Joanna and her husband led a relatively quiet life, focused on raising their children and their work. They spent their free time attending intellectual and cultural activities together (museums, lectures, concerts, and fine restaurants) and maintained a few close friendships. Since her husband's illness, however, many of these friends have retired and are now interstate or travelling around Australia. Joanna has been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, scoring 28 on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), placing her in the moderate to severe range of depression. Her most prominent depressive symptoms include loss of pleasure, social withdrawal, fatigue, difficulty motivating herself to perform daily functions, and loneliness. She wants to feel 'normal' again and make the most of the next phase in her life.

Step 1: Identify the client's problem.

Step 2: Identify, review, and select therapy.

Step 3: Adapt therapy for the client.
