BUSINESS PROBLEM DEFINITION The Government of Canada in partnership with the Province of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver will be hosting the Canada Summer Games between July 7, 2024 and July 25, 2024. This national event occurs every year and alternates between Summer and Winter events. The ultimate goal is to showcase the talents of up-and-coming Canadian athletics and to strengthen the national fabric of Canada through the power of sports. The Games will span multiple events and showcase the very best of Canadian athletic performance and abilities from coast to coast. The host province and city will also have an opportunity to market their geographical, cultural, and social distinctiveness within the Canadian federation. 2. PROJECT OvEvaew The Project Overview section will provide details of how the project will address the goals and objectives ofthe Canada Summer Games 2024 through the creation of a [inw McDonalds in support of this national event. The overview consists of a project description, goals and objectives for the Project, major risks and opportunities, and major estimated milestones. As the project is approved and moves forward, each ofthese components will be expanded to include a greater level of detail in working toward the project management plan. 2.1. Project Description The creation of a New McDonalds will be from renovating an existing shell space inside of an existing residential at-grade shell space in False Creek village, Vancouver, BC. Th_e existing shell space is approximately 4,000 sg.ft. The New McDonalds will require the construction of several key spaces including the food preparation and storage area, eating space, purchasing counter, and washrooms. The project will also include purchasing of all necessarijr equipment such as Point of Sale, Inventory Tracking, and Security Camera systems. Given the scope of this project, it is anticipated that operating costs will stem primarily from lease, staffing charges (cleaning, securitv, customer care, food preparation), training costs, utilities costs, and taxes. Operating costs are excluded from the scope of this project. 2.2. Goals and Objectives The New McDonalds directl'jr supports several goals and objectives of hosting the Canada Summer 2024 Games: Business GoaIIObjectlve Description Provide a food option for athletes on the go within the Athletes Village. AlthOugh during this time, there will be Return on Investment no cost for athletes to purchase food once the games are over, the new McDonalds will generate revenue to offset the initial costs to generate a positive ROI. 2.3. Major Risks and Opportunities The following high-level risks for the project have been identified: Not generate return on investment as estimated Loss of initial investment Unanticipated initial and operating costs greater than planned The following are major opportunities with this project: Support the success of the Canada Summer Games 2024 - Create brand awareness and continue to support branding of the Province of BC and City of Vancouver as the destination of choice for domestic and international guests 2.4.
