Week 2 Case Vignette Analysis #1

Throughout the course, various theories and concepts related to assessment of emergency and crisis situations will be presented. The purpose of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for learners to demonstrate the ability to analyze crisis and emergency situations, applying appropriate assessment, intervention, and treatment plan options in practical scenarios, articulating clear rationale for the decisions made.

To complete Case Vignette Analysis #1, assume you are in the role and case study scenario described below.

• ROLE: Mental Health Professional in a rural community with no behavioral health center, safe house, or in-place support systems.
• CASE STUDY: Carol has been your client for 4 sessions and recently disclosed the abusive nature of her 25-year marriage. She alleges her husband has struck her and she is fearful of his rage episodes. She also suspects that he is referring child pornography on their computer, but has been unable to substantiate. They have a daughter with 2 granddaughters ages 6 and 4. Her husband is a well-respected businessman in the very small, geographically isolated community and frontier county of less than 2000 residents. He is also a Scout leader and buddies with the County Sheriff. The couple attends church semi-regularly, belonging to a dominant patriarchal religion in the area. She is unable to go to church authorities with her suspicions and complaints as is the expected practice, because the last visit to her religious counselors resulted in intensified abuse afterward and a reprimand by the religious leader for being a poor wife. Carol calls you at 10:00 pm one Friday night with terror in her voice and informs you she has left her husband, but knows he will come looking for her. Her personal funds are limited, and she is driving a high-visibility vehicle. From the panic noted in her call, there is little question that she feels she is in danger.

In responding to the case presented, develop a 12-15 slide PowerPoint Presentation incorporating the following:

• Your assessment using the ABCDE Assessment Model from Lessons 1 & 2.
• Your detailed six-step, single-session crisis intervention using the intervention model.
• Your ongoing crisis management and intervention goals.

In developing your work, be sure to rely upon academic, scholarly sources to support the definitions and recommendations provided.Scholarly sources should be cited both in-text (speakers notes) and on the reference page of the submission. A minimum of 8 academic, scholarly sources are required to be cited in the work, 6 of which must be peer-reviewed journal articles. Course materials may not be used to meet the scholarly source requirement.

Ensure the plan presented is based upon evidenced based practices established in the field as effective in addressing psychological needs in crisis and emergency settings.

You should ensure your PPT meets the following criteria in addition to covering the topics above:

1. The slides should contain mostly bullet point data related to the requirements expected in the instructions above.
2. Information on slides (including the reference slide) should be easily readablewith an appropriate font size (do not cram all the information onto one slide and shrink the font).
3. Formatting should be consistent throughout the submission, this includes font, bullets, spacing, alignment, pictures, etc.
4. A background appropriate to the topic should be used on all slides and the background should be appropriate for the font (style, size, color, etc.), bullets, and graphics you have chosen.
5. Pictures and graphics (appropriate to the overall topic and the slide itself) should be included throughout the submission to keep the presentation interesting and add an additional dimension to the presentation, a good rule is a picture every other slide at least.
6. A title slide should be included with the same information that would be found on an APA formatted paper cover sheet.
7. All detailed explanations should be in the speakers notes only. Use of comments or any other method of adding additional information is not allowed.
8. Detailed speaker's notes should accompany each slide with in-text citations. Your speakers notes should equal at least few paper to ensure you have covered the topic thoroughly.
