Psychology Motivation:
When a person has flow, it means that they are concentrating in their activity. So we should all aim for optimal challenges and flow when setting our goals and accomplishing our goals.
Your assignment is to provide your own example of a time when you experienced:
- When your skill level is low and the challenge is high.
- Example: So, if you have skied once, and maybe you were asked to ski a black diamond. So your skill level was low, but the challenge was high.
- When your challenge matches your skill level
- Example: So you know how to ski and you are asked to ski blue and green mountains
- When your skill level is high and the challenge is low
- Example: You know how to ski and have won championships, but you are asked to ski with people on the bunny slope all day
- When your skill level is low and the challenge is low
- Example: You don't care about skiing, you aren't asked to ski, so you can sit in the lodge all day and drink hot chocolate
Students do not have to use the same example for all four parts. You can identify something you have done or you can make something up to demonstrate you understand the concepts.
Once you have identified the skill level and challenge, then come up with a way you can optimize your experiences. For example, if my skill level is low with skiing, and I'm asked to challenge myself by skiing a black diamond, I can ask for assistance, have someone ski with me, or I can take my time.
Please provide a way to optimize your flow in each of the four examples you give.
