The methods of moving the circus evolved as americas technology did allowing it to reach more people more efficiently. The first major transport method for circuses in general was horse and wagons. This method was incredibly cumbersome and required immense resources, Not to mention being slow. It took a toll on the performers as they weren't able to rest between shows and were often required to help with the transport. This method severely limited the impact of circuses to culture. The next step up was transporting the show by boat. This allowed quicker transportation between river and lake front towns and cities, especially in the major population centers on the Great Lakes and Mississippi River. This method also improved the acts in the show allowing the performers to actually rest along the journey. All this innovation ultimately lead to the method that we all know and love, The miles long circus train. This is where they really hit their stride. This incredible logistical feat allowed
