Punitive damages are:

a.like actual or compensatory damages, but are not designed to deter the defendant from future conduct.

b.a small amount of compensation given to the plaintiff in acknowledgement that there has been a tort committed.

c.damages in excess of the amount of the plaintiff's actual injuries, awarded to punish the defendant.

d.damages awarded by the jury that are much less than the amount of the plaintiff's actual injuries, and are designed to punish the defendant.
