Purpose: Compose your own study tool to use to learn key structures in the brain to better understand processing within and between different parts of the nervous system.
Instructions: Get creative! You will build your own study tool to help you learn more about the brain by identifying key brain structures and their functions. Examples of study tools include a PowerPoint deck of "flashcards", brain coloring pages, games, quizzes, and more!
The only limit to your study tool is that it must include the following terms and brain structures, which are discussed in the textbook and required readings.
Terms | Brain Structures
dorsal | forebrain | auditory cortex | pituitary gland |
ventral | midbrain | prefrontal cortex | corpus callosum |
anterior | hindbrain | association areas | cerebellum |
posterior | frontal lobe | inferior temporal cortex | medulla |
superior | parietal lobe | Broca's area | pons |
inferior | occipital lobe | Wernicke's area | nucleus accumbens |
lateral | temporal lobe | limbic system | ventral tegmental area |
medial | cerebral cortex | thalamus | substantia nigra |
motor cortex | hypothalamus | reticular formation
somatosensory cortex | hippocampus
visual cortex | amygdala |
You will turn in your tool (as slides, a document, URL link or PDF, which may include pictures if you build something non-digital), including any instructions, the answer key, and any other information another student would need to use it.
Next, use your tool to help you study for the upcoming quiz next week. Compose a short reflection (about three hundred words) about this experience. Reflect on how your learning is different when you compose your own study tool compared to using pre-made study tools.
I will be building my own quiz-let questions with the following terms. Help build questions and answers for my quiz-let along with a reflection and key.
