Purpose

Part 1

Review the letter scenario in Unit 2, and create a writing plan based what you learned in this unit. Then, write an effective business plan and letter.

Consider this scenario, as you create your business plan and letter.

Letter:

  • The company received a letter from a local school board asking for sponsorship for its upcoming track and field event and the letter was passed to Jane's department. The school board is named Manitoba School Board, and the letter was from their sponsorship manager whose name is Rose Parker.
  • Javier is asked to respond to the letter.
  • The letter should say yes and provide the following details: the company will provide free t-shirts and company-branded water bottles to all of the competitors, as well as donate $500 to be used for the event. In return, Go Clothing would like to have two banners present at the event, be listed in all promotional materials as a sponsor, and be mentioned during any speeches given at the event.

Make sure to include the following in your plan (Part 1):

  • specific purpose;
  • specific outcome and timeframe;
  • audience assessment; and
  • brainstorm of the letter's content.

Part 2

You will now use the report that you created in Part 1 to help you write a letter.

Make sure to include the following for the letter (Part 2):

  • relevant salutation and sign-off;
  • specific purpose for the letter;
  • clear outcome and timeframe;
  • plain language and goodwill; and
  • proper letter formatting (as discussed in the course).

Note: invent any details you need that you don't have in the example, such as addresses.

How to Proceed

Submit your plan and letter as ONE document in Word/PDF/Pages format to the Assignment 4: Create an Effective Writing Plan and Letter dropbox on UM Learn by the due date specified in the course schedule. Be mindful of correct grammar and mechanics.

You need to submit both parts one and two together by the end of Unit 5.
