Purpose: To begin the process of writing a research paper; more specifically, to develop a research question of interest, practice locating research, and writing all of which are necessary skills for researchers in the psychological sciences.

This week for the lab assignment, you will begin the process of writing a research study. You are to assume that you are the researcher who completed the research project from start to finish. That is, as you compose your paper over the course of the next several weeks, ensure your language is reflective of you as the researcher.

(1) Select TWO variables of interest for your research study. (Depression and Anxiety)

(2) Develop a research question based on the variables you selected. You need not drill down specifically into a hypothesis, yet, but you will narrow down to a hypothesis next week.

(3) Provide associated research articles to support your question with complete references in (at least three). You will upload the actual articles in addition to your responses to these questions.

(4) For three of your research articles, respond to the following questions.

• What research question is being addressed in this study (it may not be stated explicitly, but try to put the basic question into your own words)?
• What is the hypothesis?
• Did the researchers conduct qualitative research or quantitative research? Explain how you determined this.
• How did the researchers measure their variables of interest?
