Topic of Discussion

In the class we discussed many factors that influence the choice of data warehouse architecture and tools such as ETL tools used. For the discussion topic give an example of a hypothetical company and a reporting requirement then discuss how this influence the selection of the architecture and other tools.

When describing the company, you can tell, for example, is the company a startup with growing business or an established large corporation with multinational presence; you can add other assumptions on the company that might influence a DW solution

Hint: Factors influencing the data warehouse architecture and tools include but is NOT limited to:

-Cost of implementing the DW solution.

-The existence of legacy systems.

-Volume of data and the potential for growth.

-Different departments with different reporting needs.

-The existence of IT team with knowledge of maintaining the infrastructure
