PART 1: Learn about light pollution.
Start with the International Dark-Sky Association (which you can join as a student for a small fee). Do further research on your own. https://www.darksky.org/light-pollution/
PART 2: Identify pollution examples nearby.
Look around at night and identify as many different sources of light pollution that you can. Look for examples of good lighting as well. The goal here is to get you thinking about light pollution and ways to reduce it.

PART 3: Take action to reduce pollution.
Like all pollution, reducing it from any source helps everyone. Inspect your own home first. If you live in an apartment, condo, or rental property, talk to the manager/owner about options (you might be paying extra to have your porch light on all night!) See if a friendly neighbor, relative, employer, or friend can help you make a difference. This can be as simple as redirecting exterior lighting downward or converting lights to motion sensors. Takebefore and afterpictures documenting the change to the lighting fixtures.

PART 4: Post to the discussion board what you learned, examples you found, and what you did to reduce light pollution. Insert the before and after pictures in your comments.
Share what you learned about the harmful effects of light pollution (at least 2 new facts) and examples on your own home or nearby. Take pictures before you make any changes. If you asked someone else to help with your efforts, explain if you were able to convince them of the benefits.

Common point deductions:
You shouldactually reduce light pollutionsomehow (you can do it!). Living in an HOA, apartment, condo, rental property or dark area is not an excuse. Light pollution is everywhere. You can find a way to make a difference, even if it is in a different town. We all have friends, family, employers, and neighbors that can help and want to help you be successful at this.
You have toinsert imagesinto your post, not attach them. Images are not inserted properly if someone has to click to open them. They should already be visible when reading the post. Open your own discussion post after submitting it to confirm.
