I do believe that ethics play a big role in a companys success and failures. I do not believe that creating ethics within a business and doing so strategically is an issue. Every successful company has to deal with ethics in some sort of way or another, so why not take advantage of it and do something good for others around you. I think that people can look at this from two perspectives. The first being that a company is trying to take advantage of its customers by showing how much they do for a community or fundraising. Many people dont agree with this because they feel that the only reason this company is doing something like this is for its reputation or image in the publics eyes. I do believe that although a company might be doing this attempting to create a better image in the publics eyes to draw in more customers. This is not a bad thing! Even though some companies might be centering their morals and ethics based on the publics view of them they are still helping and supporting the people around them. Something is better than nothing and I think some of the fundraisers and charities would agree that even if the company is doing this strictly based on the public image, it is still benefiting the people that need it and the people that the company would be supporting.

Many Fortune 500 corporations have been spotlighted in news and other forms of media regarding their contributions to society and efforts for sustainable social responsibility. In my opinion, these Fortune 500 corporations have the finances to do good things with their revenue and in return reap the publicity of showing that in the public eye, they deserve that attention. Its a consumers responsibility when purchasing to do research and understand what these companies support their mission statements, what the company stands for, and their values. Although it can be seen as controversial for gaining publicity in this way its still doing good and promoting good things as well as boosting the economy. Many businesses do this in a strategic way by having an ethical strategy incorporated into their annual business plan. Having an ethical strategy is described in an article from the Journal of Business ethics as, The purpose of this strategy is to align the firms culture with the core values of society (A P, R. (2000). These acts of kindness to support the community in which a business stands for is an appropriate company expression.
