Q: Organize a 2 day company team building event at a 5* hotel in Sentosa to develop your functional team as you find them not motivated and staff turnover rate is high (given budget: $30,000 and plan activities up to the eve of the actual event day). You may consider activities and tasks to be undertaken in the initiating, planning and execution process group, e.g. identify stakeholders, sponsors, venue identification, logistic requirement, team event/game organization etc.

Project scenario:

JEREMY TRADING PTE LTD is a company that focuses on trading stocks in the Singapore market. The company has been in operation for 10 years and has 50 employees from various departments. Recently, the old project manager, Peter, left the company and a new project manager, Jonathan, was hired. His first task is to organize a 2-day company team-building event at a 5-star hotel in Sentosa.

Upon reviewing the company's financial statements, Jonathan notices that the current financial year has recorded the lowest profit in the past 5 years, with a 20% drop compared to the previous year. He is determined to find out why the company, which had previously shown increases in profit every year, has suddenly experienced a decrease in profits.

To gain a better understanding of the company's financial performance, Jonathan meets with the heads of the company's four major divisions: Sales, Operations, Finance, and Human Resources (HR). He asks the sales manager, Ben, why sales figures have dropped in the past financial year. Ben explains that a few of the company's top marketing staff have been poached by a competitor that offers better workplace benefits. This has left the sales team understaffed, which has reduced productivity and hindered their ability to meet the demand of the market.

Jonathan also meets with the HR manager, Michelle, to discuss the company's work benefits for employees and gather data on sales. He reviews the company's employment records and notices that there is a significant staff turnover rate, which is affecting other departments in the company as well. He believes that this high staff turnover rate is a contributing factor to the company's poor financial performance, as it takes time for new employees to adapt to the company culture and they may not be able to start working right away. He also observes that new employees are having trouble integrating into the workplace culture and are not communicating well with their co-workers, which could lead to mistakes in their work that could cost the company.

Additionally, the company has a logistics department which is responsible for managing the company's logistics activities, including inventory management, shipping, and receiving. The Logistics Manager reports to the Project Manager and works closely with the sales and operations team to ensure that the company's supply chain is running smoothly.

The Head of Department team is responsible for managing the company's different departments, ensuring that they are working efficiently to meet the company's goals. The Head of Department team works closely with the other department heads to ensure that the company is running smoothly.

Finally, the sponsor of the team-building event provides financial or other support for the event.

As the project manager appointed to manage this event, I am responsible for leading the project team and ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. My team consists of 50 employees at JEREMY TRADING PTE LTD, and it is my job to ensure that they are motivated and working towards the common goal of improving communication, teamwork, and morale through this team-building event. I am confident in my ability to lead this project to success and achieve the desired outcomes for the company.
