Q: Power Technologies Inc. (PTI) is a company specialized in Power generation. You are to design a power simulator software for PTI that meets the requirements listed below. Whenever necessary, make proper assumptions and list them in your deliverables. Various functional entities interact with each other to ensure the continuous supply of electricity from the transmission system. Entities are: Generating Units Transmission System Equipment Load Serving Entities Resource Allocation Systems Interconnections Transmission Service Provider A. Electricity is generated from the Generating units, measured and transmitted via the transmission system equipment. B. The load serving entities are responsible for enabling the sufficient load to be transmitted to Transmission Service Providers. C. Resource Allocation systems are responsible to allocate the electricity as required by either any province, or the end nodes such as household, industries or commercial spaces. D. All the systems, wires, transmission antennas and other devices which connect two entities are allocated under Interconnections Entity. E. From the generating units electricity is delivered to the Transmission Service Providers such as Trans-Alta, EPCOR and NB power which distribute the power to end nodes. F. Trans-Alta, EPCOR and NB power offers a promotion to customers, in which they get free lifetime electricity supply by referring 10 new connections. G. Limit the requirements of the software only to household electricity distribution. H. For all those customers who do not pay their electricity bills on time, a penalty of 0.1% Extra must be charged for every day that passes the due date for the bill . I. A customer must know all the entities involved in ensuring reachability of electricity from generating units to their houses with help of Identification Numbers of each entity. With this information, do the following initial steps in your database design process: 1. Develop an E/R diagram to represent the conceptual database scheme. 2. In the diagram, mark the various constraints (keys, cardinalities of the relationships, etc.) Identify any constraints that are not captured by the E/R diagram. 3. Convert your E/R diagram into a relational database scheme. Make refinements to your scheme, if possible Identify the primary keys and the foreign keys in the relational schemes, and hence note the referential integrity constraints in the scheme.
