Q. Professor Dracula was the Clinical Director and person responsible at the New Fertility IVF Centre (fictitious) in Chesterfield. The clinic had a valid treatment and storage licence and offered NHS and private fertility treatments.

Arthur and Brenda, both aged 53, sought IVF at the New Fertility IVF Centre. Arthur had 5 convictions for indecently assaulting two 4-year-old boys and is on the sex offenders' register. Brenda has had 2 strokes and suffers from very high blood pressure.

Dracula charges Arthur and Brenda 12,000 for one IVF treatment cycle. 4 embryos are placed in Brenda in the IVF treatment cycle. These embryos were created from Mr and Mrs Brown's sperm and eggs, and furthermore Mr and Mrs Brown had only given consent for the embryos to be used for their own fertility treatment.

Ygor, aged 25, the embryologist employed at the clinic, was a mature student, studying for his GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics at a local college in Chesterfield, and Clare and Jane, (the 2 nurses employed at the IVF clinic), had just started their nursing degrees, (part-time), at university.

Furthermore, Professor Dracula, used a further 8 of Mr and Mrs Brown's embryos for research/experimentation at a research clinic he had set up in Sheffield, (the Embryo Research Centre(fictitious)). Dracula used Mr and Mrs Brown's embryos to test for a facial hair removal cream. In addition, Dracula developed 6 of these embryos to 17 days post-fertilisation, whilst experimenting and researching on them. Also, Dracula, placed the remaining 2 embryos in a pig to further test the cream.

Discuss and critically evaluate the legal and ethical issues arising in this scenario.
