q13 . READING

[1] Over the last few years, there has been a shocking increase in the number of people who claim to suffer from stress. For most, the reason for this is work. There are, however, many other factors that lead to stress, such as relationships, money, and the need to succeed. Thankfully, there is a simple thing that we all can do to help: sleep.

[2] A recent study showed that most Americans sleep an average of 6.7 hours per night. This is clearly not enough because experts state that we need between 7 and 9 hours per night to fully recover from the stresses of the day.

[3] What's more, an alarming 43% of people we surveyed said that the quality of their sleep is poor or they cannot sleep well due to stress. And a very worrying fact is that levels of stress are believed to increase if you do not get enough quality sleep. Plus, other effects of not sleeping enough are being less patient with people, having lower motivation to do things, and feeling tired during the day.

[4] Another unfortunate factor of not getting enough sleep is that people do not exercise as they had planned. Exercising, as we all know, has a dramatically positive effect on stressso not doing this activity also creates health problems. In severe cases, stress can lead to stays in a hospital or having to take strong medicines.

[5] So, go to bed early tonight and get a good night's rest. It might just make your life better.
