Quantitative Methods: Hypothesis testing

Question: My husband Ryan (who also teaches at the College) wants to know whether the use of name brand tools helps his electical engineering students perform their electrical tasks more efficiently. He randomly assigns his students into one of two groups. Half of the students are given top of line name brand tools, while the other half are given tools from the dollar store. He recorded the number of hours it took each student to perform a given lab.

the MEAN for both groups: (group 1) Brand name tools: 81/14= 5.79.

(group 2) Dollar store tools: 131/14=9.36

Are the groups matched samples? Are they directional or non directional? What is the degree of freedom and Critical Value (assuming a 0.05 level of significance)?
