A sand layer overlying a sandy clay layer of 3.0 m thick and underlying the sandy clay layer is a clay layer of 7.0 m thick. The foundation is to transmit a uniform contact pressure of 180 kPa. Determine; i) immediate settlement (s.) of sand layer using Meyerhof (1974) method. i) average immediate settlement (s.) in the both clay layers using expression suggested by Janbu et al., 1956. i) total immediate settlement for all the soil layers.
