Juniper Ltda shipping company accepted a booking fromMrs Summer for a holiday of a lifetime on a world cruise on the maiden voyage of a ship called the King Charles leaving Belfast.

The ship was to sail on the 10 January 2018 but the launch of the ship King Charles was delayed until June 2018. When the passengers finally set sail on their cruise holiday they were met with a number of issues such as meals not being served on time, the promised entertainment not being available and problems with the furnishings in the passenger cabins.

After an awful start to the cruise with her suffering sleepless nights due to a noisy cabin, the Mrs Summer was temporarily upgraded to a suite, then offered another cabin which she rejected. She left the ship when it reached New York, five days into a planned four month journey.The total cost Mrs Summer paid for her cruise was 48,000.

Juniper pleads that the delay was caused by a shortage of skilled labour, an outbreak of flu at the shipyardhad led to many of theemployees being ill and absent from work. This was then followed by an industrial disputewithJuniper Ltd concerning rates of pay and hours of workfor customer service and entertainment staff that led to a number of posts not being filled before the voyage commenced.Juniper alleges that these additional staff were due to join the ship in New York.
