Demonstrations became the order of the day drawing government intervention to regulate operations of Merriman Uganda Ltd. That was the same time when it was noticed that Merriman had also evaded taxes for quite a long time. Meanwhile employees' salaries and payments to suppliers were no longer prompt. Much of the money had been used to service a loan from the bank used for expansion. MUL faced opposition from different stakeholders who had different interests, attitude and feelings. They all devised different measures to ensure that their stake in the company was upheld. A series of meetings that were held revealed that scarcity of goods and misunderstandings between the marketing and production department had denied quality products to its customers, who had joined consumer protection organization to ensure quality restoration. Before long, many of its stakeholders including the government threatened to close the enterprise, suppliers were more than read to sue Merriman Uganda Ltd,while sit down strikes by employees were becoming the order of theday.

These include Mr. Kato and Mr. Magulu whose work is to ensure that the different lines of production produce similar drinks from the first bottle to the last. These two staff enjoy what they do since they are not questioned when found tasting the drinks from time to time. Mr. Baryatunga has been keen to reward the gentlemen behind quality control with medals and cash. They have been loyal to BUL by keeping secrets of the company.
