Question 1 The Khaki Scouts of Aotearoa New Zealand is an organisation that provides outdoor education for young people by teaching them camping, survival skills, and environmental conservation. Years ago, the Khaki Scouts were gifted a vast amount of land covered in native bush. On this land, the Khaki Scouts would go camping, tramping, build huts, bird watch, and learn about native flora and fauna. The extent of the replanting that is required to restore the native forest, bush, and wildlife, is extensive, with an estimated cost of $210,000. The current value of the land as it is (i.e. without any replanting) is two million dollars ($2,000,000). Because of the recent introduction of an Emissions Trading Scheme (where forests can generate an income due to their carbon capture) the estimated value of the land if it had been replanted at the end of the lease agreement is three million dollars ($3,000,000).
