Question 1Intention to Create Legal Relation
Dorothy promised to pay her daughter, Stephanie, $200 per month if she gave up her job in the US and went to London to study as a lawyer for the bar. Stephanie was reluctant to do so at first as she had a wellpaid job with the Indian embassy in Washington and was quite happy and settled, however, Dorothy persuaded her that it would be in her interest to do so. Dorothy's idea was that Stephanie, could then join her in Trinidad as a lawyer. This initial agreement wasn't working out as Stephanie, believed the $200 was US dollars whereas Dorothy meant Trinidad dollars which was about less than half what Stephanie was expecting. This meant that Stephanie, could only afford to rent one room for her and her son to live in. Dorothy then agreed to purchase a house for the Stephanie, to live in. She purchased a large house so that Stephanie, could rent out other rooms and use the income as her maintenance. Stephanie, then married and did not complete her studies. Dorothy took legal action against Stephanie to sought possession of the house.
Was there a legally binding agreement between the Dorothy and Stephanie?(Use the IRAC method to answer the question above)
