QUESTION 2 Q 2(a) [TOTAL MARKS: 33.33] [18 Marks] With the use of relevant equations and diagrams, discuss how cyclic voltammetry can be used to characterise electroactive films deposited on electrodes. Your answer should describe the experimental set-up, potential waveform, how electrochemical reversibility is assessed and the effect of scan rate on the response observed. Q 2(b) [15.33 Marks] A thin film of a redox active, conducting polymer is deposited on a 1 mm radius platinum electrode. The homogeneous charge transport diffusion coefficient is 5x109 cm2s, the concentration of redox active sites within the film is 1.1 M and the surface coverage is 3x10 mol cm. Determine the: ii) iii) film thickness, charge passed during exhaustive electrolysis of the film, highest possible scan rate that can be used to exhaustively electrolyse the film.
