Question 2 The world's largest solar furnace is the Odeillo solar furnace which is situated in the south of France. The way it works is that there are multiple mirrors on the hillside that reflect light towards the furnace (see image below). The reflective mirrors are called heliostats. (They can be adjusted so that the sunlight heads straight to the furnace.) Solar furnace of average power Parabolic Focus Hellostats (adjustable mirrors) mirror Solar furnace generating 1 megawatt The large wall of mirrors is shaped as a paraboloid (a parabola that's rotated around - kind of like a bowl). So if you looked at a cross section of the parabolic mirror, it would look like this with the blue curve being a parabola:Parabolic Focus mirror The parabolic mirror focuses the light coming in onto one point. (That's why that point is called the focus. ) You decide to build your own and you want your focal length to be 13.4 meters and the depth of the parabolic mirror to be 10 meters. Sketch the picture below and put a 2-dimensional coordinate system in the picture. (Of course, you don't need to color it in. You just need the rough idea. :). Label the picture appropriately with your given lengths and any coordinates for all point(s) that are known or partially known. Then upload your picture here. (It must contain a coordinate system and have all knowns and unknowns labled).
