Question 3 (15 points) Consider a monopolist who faces teh following demand curves for its product in the export market A and the domestic market B. Export Market A: QA = 360 - 2PA, Domestic Market B: QB = 200 - PB. p; and Q, denote the price and quantity sold in market i respectively. The monopolist's cost function is given by c(Q) = 0.25(QA + QB)2. Assume that resale between countries is not possible and the monopolist is a profit maximiser. (a) (5 points) Find the prices pa and pa which maximise the monopolist's profits. (b) (5 points) Suppose that the home government in country B imposes a restriction that the monopolist cannot sell more in the export market. That is, we must have: QA S QB. However, the monopolist can charge two different prices in countries A and B. Find the amount of output that the monopolist sells in each country and the resulting price levels (which will be different for A and B) that maximise the monopolist's joint profits (i.e., the sum of the profits in the two countries). (c) (5 points) Suppose that the World Trade Organisation prohibits price discrimination. That is, the monopolist cannot charge two different prices in A and B. Find the unique price that maximises the monopolist's joint profits
