QUESTION 3 [25 MARKS]

Water with mass of 1 kg executes a Camot power cycle with a thermal efficiency of 11%.

Water is heated until becomes a saturated vapour from initial state where the pressure is

10 bars and quality of 20%, during the isothermal expansion. The vapour performs 240

kJ/kg of work in the subsequent adiabatic expansion.

a) Sketch the cycle on a P-v with respect to saturation line curve. Shows clearly how

each point was obtained.

b) Calculate the quality at the start and at the end of the adiabatic expansion.

c) Calculate the work done and heat transfer during the isothermal expansion.

d) Calculate the quality at the end of the isothermal compression.

e) Compare the Camot cycle efficiency that is obtained using net Wcycie and thermal efficiency. Comments on their similarity or differences.
