Question 3: [25 points] Chlorobenzene (C6H5Cl) is produced by bubbling chlorine gas through liquid benzene. In an undesired side reaction, chlorobenzene is further chlorinated to dichlorobenzene, and in a third reaction dichlorobenzene is chlorinated to trichlorobenzene. The feed to the chlorination reactor consists of pure benzene and technical grade chlorine gas ( 97 mol\% chlorine and rest impurities). The liquid output from the reactor contains 73.2 mol\% C6H6,25 mol\% C6H5Cl1,1.5mol6C6H4Cl2 and C6H3Cl3. The gaseous output contains only HCl and the impurities that entered with chlorine. a) Draw a flowchart of the process showing the different streams and their flows. [3 points] b) Write down the system of linear equations to determine the stoichiometric coefficients for all the 3 reactions and determine coefficients using MATLAB. [9 points] c) Using 100mol liquid output stream as the basis, conduct a degree of freedom analysis of the overall process. [ 3 points] d) Write out all specified flows, system specifications, and material balances as linear equations. [5 points] e) Transform your system of equations into the matrix form Ax=b. [2 points] f) Solve the system of linear equations using MATLAB to determine the unknown flows and compositions. Display your solution results. [ 3 points]
