Question 3 Read the case study below and then answer the questions that follow. A few years after successfully launching a new business, an entrepreneur found himself spending 15 hours a day running from one appointment to the next, negotiating with customers, looking for new business, signing cheques and checking up as much as possible on employees. He knew that selling was his strong point, but his general managerial responsibilities were extremely time-consuming and interfered with his sales efforts. He even had to sleep at the office two nights a week just to keep abreast of things. Despite his hard work, he knew that his employees were disorganised and were also experiencing many problems. However, he simply did not have the time to formulate personnel policies or even draw up job descriptions for his six employees. Due to the lack of supervision, some employees even took advantage of the situation and left work early. Invoices were sent to customers late and delivery schedules were missed in certain cases. Fortunately, the business was profitable despite all these problems. (1) Is this founder's problem one of time management or general managerial ability? Would it be feasible to engage a management consultant to help solve the business's problems? (2) (2) If you were asked to improve this business's management system, what would be your first steps and initial goal? (2)
