Question 3: The following data show the probability of recovery from being unable to eat or unable to toilet in two nursing homes. Two sets of data are presented. Each row in these data shows a branch in the decision tree describing the nursing home outcomes. First calculate the probability of falling into any one of the branches within a nursing home. For your ease, I have calculated this probability for two of the branches. Then, calculate the rate of recovery for each branch. Again I have done so for two situations. Compare the performance of these two nursing homes using distribution switch method. The outcome of interest is the probability of recovery. Which nursing home has better outcome for its own residents? What happens if residents at nursing home A were cared for at nursing home B, which nursing home would have better outcomes now? What will happen if the reverse happens (residents of nursing home B were cared for Nursing Home A)? Submit your answers in this worksheet. Hint: for Q3 column H, do not just drag down from the top cell (H5). You will not get the correct probabilities. |
