During the past week, the management of the company's Deluxe Division was contacted about the possibility of buying the operations of a competitor, SuperPart, which wished to cease its retail operations. The following data relate to recent performance of both the Deluxe Division and SuperPart. Sales Deluxe Division $840,000 SuperPart $520,000 Variable costs 70% of sales $215,000 $185,000 65% of sales $167,000 Fixed costs Invested capital $62,500 If the acquisition occurs, the operations of SuperPart will be absorbed into the Deluxe Division. The operations of Superpart will need to be upgraded to meet the high standards of Pacific Limited which would require an additional $37,500 of invested capital.
