Question 4 (25 marks) The Literature Searches division employs Journal & Electronic Resource researchers, Book researchers, and Administrative Assistants to compile the search results. The manager wishes to determine the optimum number of each employee group to employ so as to minimise the total salaries and wages bill, but still provide a satisfactory level of service. The major duties to be performed may be summarised (for simplicity) into (1) Report preparation, (2) Journal and Eresources searches, (3) Book searches (4) Reference editing and (5) General inquiries. Journal and Eresource researchers limit their searches to materials available in electronic formals while Book researchers are restricted to hard copy publications. Electronic searches and culling to isolate relevant material takes on average 180 minutes per job request while print based material for the same type of job takes on average 8 hours.
