Question 4. The homogeneous decomposition of the free-radical polymerization initiator diethyl peroxydicarbonate (DEPC) has been studied in supercritical carbon dioxide using an ideal CSTR. The concentration of DEPDC in the feed to the CSTR was 0.30mM. Because of this very low concentration, constant fluid density can be assumed. At 70C and a residence time of 10min, the conversion of DEPDC was 0.21. At 70C and a residence time of 30 minutes, the conversion of DEPDC was 0.44. The rate equation for DEPDC decomposition is believed to have the form r=k[DEPC]n (a) What is the value of n, and what is the value of k at 70C ? (b) The activation energy for this decomposition reaction is 132kJ/mol. What is teh value of the rate constant k at 85C ? (c) What time is required to achieve a conversion of 0.44 in a batch reactor with the same temperature and same initial concentration of DEPDC? Compare this to the CSTR residence time
